IHL in with a chance of scooping the Legal Innovators of the Year Award

Our concept of providing an In-house Lawyer (IHL) service to SMEs and start-ups has seen us make the shortlist for Legal Innovators of the Year at this year’s Bristol Law Society awards and we couldn’t be more thrilled!

Innovative is the key to success

Our IHL team has developed an affordable and flexible service that has evolved the traditional and transaction business model for legal services into one from which the client receives more value, consistency and predictability.

Through the course of IHL’s development it has become evident that we needed to provide flexibility for our clients, so the regular service is based on the amount of support they required and the budget they have available. As IHL subscribers grew in number, it continued to evolve into its current incarnations.

Tried and Tested

Since the launch of IHL, it’s clear that the service greatly appeals to clients but nevertheless we continue to adapt and further develop the model to suit client demands and needs. IHL has grown to around 50 clients to date, with support being provided in a number of ways as clients require. There is the monthly subscription, the additional adhoc work that sits outside the subscription and other broader business services that can be provided by one of the GL group companies.

At the outset of our client relationships, IHL clearly sets out the boundaries between regular advice delivered by telephone or email, which is included within the IHL subscription and separate work, such as drafting legal documents and contract reviews.
What have we learnt?

That flexibility and clarity are key for everyone and having a focus on the client broader business needs is imperative to creating a solution that will work. We’ve found through experience that clients engaged with the subscription absolutely love it, get great value from it and consider themselves better protected as a result. They see it as an early intervention tool, that supports a risk management approach to handling business challenges.

We forge strong and mutually beneficial relationships over time and keep service levels high, which in turn increases expectations on us and results in the continued improvements and evolution of the services we provide.
